November 2023 Food Drive

In Spontaneous Activity in Education by Maria Montessori, she states "It is that ardent fire called charity or love, which keeps life kindled, and gives value to all things."

Here at Gaowa Montessori School, we reflected this quote by hosting our annual Food Drive with Families Forward. Our benevolent Gaowa Families took the time out their day to help make a difference for families in need. On behalf of Families Forward, we want to give the biggest thank you to our families that participated in our food drive. Especially during a time of when gratitude and being thankful is emphasized, we hope that our children learned these virtues through the act of donating.

As a school, we also wanted to take the time in expressing our appreciation and gratitude for our families.

Without our Gaowa Families and the combined effort, we wouldn't have had such a successful food drive. We are grateful for everyone coming together to help make a difference in our community. These acts of kindness reflect the type of school we are and we are proud to align with these values.

We hope that our next Food Drive will be as successful!

Thanks to our amazing Gaowa Families, we've brought smiles and a sense of food security to our community. We were able to help serve over 930 OC families this holiday! It is heartwarming to see what we can do when we come together.

In Families Forward's words:

"When a family doesn’t have enough food – the most basic human need – stability in other areas is impossible. At Families Forward, we provide food to struggling families. Currently, the Families Forward food pantry serves over 6,000 low-income individuals each year. Families Forward relies almost entirely on community donations to feed these local families."

If you are interested in donating to them, here is more information:

- Individual Food Donations: Families Forward welcomes food donations from individuals who want to help end hunger! At this time, food donations can be dropped off at our pantry (located in the back of our building) Monday-Thursday between 10:00am and 4:00pm. If you are unable to drop off during these days/hours, you may deliver donations through our front office Monday-Thursday between 9:00am and 4:00pm, and Fridays from 9:00am to 1:00pm.

- Host a Donation Drive: We make hosting a food drive easy! Click here to learn more. If you have questions about how to donate food, please send a message for our Food Drive Coordinator at fooddrives@families-forward.org.

- Shop Online: You can donate our most needed food items with just a few clicks of the mouse. Shop our Amazon Wish List and have your donated food items shipped directly to our offices. Click on the link to our wish list here.
