May Recap

May was a BLAST at Gaowa Montessori, but hold onto your hats because June is shaping up to be even more epic!

Before we jump into this month's awesomeness, let's take a quick trip down memory lane for May's highlights:

We first kicked things off with a stellar Star Wars Spirit Day! It was so fun to see the kids sporting their Star Wars gear.

Then, we celebrated Mother's Day with our amazing Muffins with Mom event for a whole week. Thanks to all the super-moms who joined us! It was heartwarming to see the love between students and their moms.

Finally, students learned all about the amazing people who keep our world running – from firefighters to doctors as community helpers! We even had some awesome parent volunteers share their jobs. Big thanks to them! ‍

Stay tuned for what June has in store! It's gonna be legendary!

Inside the Montessori Classroom

Toddler Classrooms

Ms. Esme & Ms. Kait

Mathematics/Sensorial - Number Puzzle

This activity first introduces the child number symbols and the order in which they are counted in. Here, our friend is strengthening his fine motor skills as he holds the puzzle piece by its peg, and places it where it fits. This activity helps with hand-eye coordination, shape differentiation, and number recognition.

Ms. Suzzaine & Ms. Keila

Practical Life/Sensorial - Sorting Items

A big part of the Montessori philosophy in the toddler program emphasizes building fine motor skills and independence. With this work, our friend needs to be able to hold the spoon correctly, balance the colored ball, and place it in the correct colored cup. You can see this activity also works on color matching!

Ms. Maneet & Ms. Citlali

Practical Life: Self-Care

A big part of the toddler program is promoting independence and self-sufficiency. Here, we have a friend taking care of herself as she wipes her face after having snack. She is carefully observing her movements through the mirror and noticing how they are being reflected.

Primary Classrooms

Ms. Nancy & Ms. Nijma

Mathematics: Stamp Game

The Stamp Game helps in teaching children addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in a more abstract form. Stamps or tiles are used to represent various numerals in the game. The stamps are then manipulated to represent an equation, and the answer is determined by counting them.

Ms. Tatiana & Ms. Cassidy

Sensorial: Red Rods & Number Rods

By following the control chart, this demonstrates excellent pattern recognition as the student is tasked with looking at where he needs to place the red rods and number rods. This activity promotes hand-eye coordination and visual discrimination skills to recognize which rod he needs to place for a certain place.

Ms. Marjorie

Mathematics: Hundred Board

This activity helps the child sequence numbers correctly from 1 - 100. The hundred board can also be used to show children that numbers can be grouped in numbers of tens to help prepare them to work with the beaded chains.

Ms. Ashley & Ms. Ruby

Cultural: Shapes of a Figure Puzzle

This puzzle work helps identify and match the shapes to create an object or animal. It helps children identify and name each shapes while promoting concentration, coordination, and fine motor skills.

SCHOOL CLOSED - June 19: Juneteenth

"Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19th, commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. Though the Emancipation Proclamation was signed in 1863, it wasn't until June 19, 1865 that Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, to announce that enslaved people were finally free. Juneteenth is a day of celebration, reflection, and education, often marked by parades, barbecues, rodeos, and readings of the Emancipation Proclamation. It's a reminder of a complex history, but also a testament to resilience and hope."

Artist of the Month: Andy Warhol

For the last month of the academic school year, we'll be staying here in the United States to delve into the arts of Andy Warhol.

"Andy Warhol (born August 6, 1928, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, U.S.—died February 22, 1987, New York, New York) was an American artist and filmmaker, an initiator and leading exponent of the Pop art movement of the 1960s whose mass-produced art apotheosized the supposed banality of the commercial culture of the United States. An adroit self-publicist, he projected a concept of the artist as an impersonal, even vacuous, figure who is nevertheless a successful celebrity, businessman, and social climber."
